Hyphen Apply

Hyphen is a private fellowship for a handful of young Australians — building things outside the classroom, alongside school, not instead of it.

A fellowship for Australians, sixteen to eighteen.

We are looking for young Australians who have already made something strange, gone deep on something specific, and are quietly suspicious of the crowd.

We will pay attention to them
for fifteen years. The promise
Who

There is a kind of person who arrives at their convictions alone. Who goes deep on something the room has not yet learned to value. Who treats consensus with quiet suspicion.

Who is, at seventeen, already further along a particular line of thinking than the adults around them realise.

They are rare. They have their own answer. They are usually working on it already.

Why
Support
From a private network of founders, investors, and scientists working at the frontier of their fields.
Grants
Discretionary funding for what you're already building - or maybe explore something new! Ask when you need it - no rounds, no pitch deck, no competing inside the cohort. We don't disclose the figure; it has been enough for every fellow who has asked.
Community
A small circle of other young people doing the hard work - building strange things, comparing notes, growing up alongside each other. The friends you keep. Small-group dinners once a quarter.

Our goal is simple: get you to think deeply, and back you long enough to know what to go deep on.

Manifesto

You can wait for proof.
Or you can bet on potential.

You can follow the crowd.
Or you can lead the charge.

You can look for what's popular.
Or seek out the unseen.

You can read the data.
Or read the ones who live it.

You can wait for someone else to notice.
Or you can pay attention for fifteen years.

If you suspect this is for you,
send us something you're working on.
